Lazarus Rufus Jones was the 10th known child of Alfred N. Jones and Martha P. Wood Jones, and was the youngest son that survived. Lazarus was born in the community of Texas, in Heard County, Georgia, and lived there until about sometime prior to 1920.

Lazarus Rufus (LR) Jones, born 6 August 1869 and died 13 Feb. 1930. [1]

LR Jones is on the 1920 U.S. Census for Roanoke, Randolph County, Alabama with Lizzie and all his living children except Beulah ,Willie Lee, and Dewey. The girls were married, and Dewey had apparently left home.

On 21 Sep 1889 in , Troup, Georgia, L.R. Jones was married to Sarah Ann Elizabeth (Lizzie) Kitchens Jones (dau. of Andrew Jackson Kitchens), born 4 March 1875 [2] and died 22 Nov 1955. [2]

The family land was in Texas, GA., but over the years some moved to Roanoke, Alabama. LR Jones owned a grocery store in downtown Roanoke. They owned land at 1014 East Main St. where the family home was located. Alon and Perry also had homes down the street from the family home. Many of the LR Jones family are buried in Texas, GA.

(i.) Daughter, Beulah Francis JONES, b. Jul. 7, 1890 [4] [5], in Texas, Heard, Georgia, USA, died May 22, 1976 [5] [4], in La Grange, Troup, Georgia, USA. She married Luther H. Cook (Sep. 12, 1887, Feb. 24, 1972). [5] He is buried at Mount Zion Cemetery, Oxford, Newton, Georgia, USA

(ii.) Willie Lee JONES (Ridley Brooks), b. Jul. 28, 1892 [6], Texas, Heard, Georgia, USA. She married Ales Everette Ridley on 24 Dec 1913 in Heard Co., GA and divorced about 1925. She later married Man Brooks. She died Aug., 1988 [6], in Chattanooga, Hamilton, Tennessee, USA and is buried at Oakland Cemetery, Atlanta, Fulton, Georgia, USA.

(xiii.) Son, Alon Jackson JONES, b.16 Nov. 1913 in Texas, Heard, Georgia [11] [12] Alon died 8 Mar. 1963 [12] in Troup, Georgia. He is buried at Cedarwood Cemetery in Roanoke, Randolph, Alabama. On 20 Dec 1935, Alon married Mae Belle Clark, daughter of Oscar and Wylie Ann Smith Clark, born 25 Feb 1914 [11] [13] in Alabama. Her mother, Anna Clark lived with them in 1940 at 1012 East Main Street, Roanoke, AL.

LR Jones was a Freemason. Lazarus was also a member of the Baptist church.

Lazarus relocated his family about 1920 from Texas, Georgia to Roanoke, Alabama.

LR Jones was buried at the Prospect Methodist Church Cemetery, Heard Co., GA
