Stephen LANHAM [1] [2] [3] was born in 1760 in of Prince Georges, Maryland, USA. He died on 31 May 1845 in of Otter Creek, Madison, Kentucky, USA.

In 1790, census the family consisted of himself, two boys under the age of 16, and three white females, including wife. St. John’s Piscataway Parrish Register).

They moved to and settled near Otter Creek, Madison County, Kentucky, near Boonesborough. This land was purchased from Charles Selby. [4]. See The Charles Selby Family 1762. Charles Selby, married Leah Lanham, 18 Dec. 1787, in Prince George Co. MD., also bought land from Robert Tevis, 107 acres on Otter Creek Madison Co. [5] Deed from Robert Tivis to Stephen Lanham ( 4 May 1796) and approved by John Sappington. On 6 Aug 1796, Stephen and Thomas Lanham recorded a deed from Jacob Starnes to Aron Lewis. Also a deed from Jacob Starns to John Sladens. [1]

He enlisted in the 7th Regiment Kentucky Militia (Cornstalk Militia in June 1807. On 6 Aug 1799 Stephen Lanham surveyed road from middle of folk of Otter Creek and Asa Searcy was to allot the titles. [1]

On 3 Dec. 1799, Stephen Lanham was appointed to resurvey roads in [6]. [1]

Stephen Lanham purchases land from Robert Tevis, 1796, 3 May 1796, 57 acres on Otter Creek, adjoining land of Charles Selby --Deed Book C, page 708.

In 1802 Stephen buys another 20 acres from Tevis. Stephen and wife appear in the 1840 census, aged 80-90 both. Stephen Lanham to Polly Murphey, 1809, indentured of Polly Murphey to learn the weavers trade. [1]

Stephen died 31 May 1845 and is said to be buried on the farm. [7]

Stephen married [1] Eleanor SELBY daughter of William SELBY and Martha JENKINS on 04 Oct 1779 in ,Prince Georges, Maryland, USA. [1]

They had the following children:

(i.) Daughter, Elizabeth LANHAM was born on 31 Dec 1789. She died on 12 Aug 1855 in , Madison, Kentucky, USA. She was buried in Powell graveyard, Madison, Kentucky, USA. Elizabeth married William POWELL Jr on 08 Mar 1810 in ,, Kentucky, USA. There is a William Powell Bible listing other family data and in the hands of Minnie Eades Hartson ( descendent of Stephen). Elizabeth died in Madison Co. Ky, 12 Aug 1855, and is buried in the Powell graveyard in Madison Co. Ky. [1]

(ii.) Son, William LANHAM was born about 1791. William married Polly POWELL [8] [9] [10] on 20 Dec 1810 in ,, Kentucky, USA. Polly Lanham, widow of William Lanham, Court Order dated Dec. 4, 1849, "widow and Relict of William Lanham, decd." We know that they had at least one daughter, Mary Ann. [11]

 Some sources show the daughter was Amelia, and others show Mary Ann. More research is needed.

(iii.) Daughter, Deborah LANHAM was born after 1793. Deborah married Jeremiah REEVES on 12 Jan 1805 in , Madison, Kentucky. That linage continued to Harvy Reeves Margaret Jane Wooley Reeves Gentry, to Martha Elizabeth Gentry-Joab Reeves, to Joseph Reeves - Laura Ellen Bagley, to Lucy Ellen Reeves-Wallace Lee McLaughlin, to Larry L. and Molly McLaughlin. [1]

 Pursuant to an Order of the Worshipfull County Court for the said County of Madison. This Indenture is made between William Irvine, Clerk of the said court on behalf of Polly Murphey, daughter of Rachel Murphey of the one part and Stephen Lanham of the county aforesaid of the other part. Witnesseth that the said Polly Murphey is honestly and industriously to serve and obey the said Stephen Lanham in all lawfull commands untill she shall arrive to the age of eighteen years and the said Stephen Lanham doth covenant and agree to find her the said Polly a sufficiency of good cloathes and also a sufficiency of good holwsome diett and all the other necessaries as long as she the said Polly shall serve him and to learn her the said Polly all the common arts and mysteries of the weaver, spinning and common house business and have her taught to read and write and common arithmetic including the rule of three and to treat her in a humane and tender manner in all things and at the expiration of the said Polly‘s service the said Stephen Lanham is to give her the said Polly three pounds ten shillings and a decent new suit of clothes. In witness hereunto set his hand and allowed his seal and the said William Irvine both here unto set his hand and affixed his seal this 7th Day of December, 1809.

 A.J. Hold Stephen Lanham to William Lanham ( most likely Stephen‘s son), 1845, 27 areas on Otter Creek— Deed Book 22, page 87, Madison Co. KY. Stephen Lanham was one of the witnesses who proved Starn‘s deed of land to Thomas Lanham, 7 July 1796 ( Deed Book D, page 60, Madison Co., Ky Dec. 4, 1849, in Book H, p. 419. It was a brief note about William Lanham, the son of Stephen. His wife, Polly, was named executor of his estate.
