Wortha Leon LANHAM, was born on the Day Ranch, Jolly, Clay County, Texas , on 7 July 1907. He graduated from the Martha in 1925, and married Jessie Kate SHIPMAN of Martha, 17 August 1927, a daughter of Jasper Newt SHIPMAN and Callie Roxanna LANEY. Jessie Kate was born 12 July 1910 at Pella, Texas , and attended Martha School. [1]

Wortha was involved in farming operations near Martha throughout this time with the exception of a short time when they lived in Amarillo, Texas in the early 1930’s. [1]

Wortha and Jessie Kate moved to Altus, Oklahoma in 1978,and he continued to farm in the Martha Community until his retirement in 1986. He was a member of the First Methodist Church in Martha, and late the Methodist Church in Altus. He was a member of the RoundUp Club in Altus for a number of years. [1]

Wortha died 22 January 1996, at the age of 88, at Altus , Oklahoma. He is buried in the Lanham plots at Martha, Oklahoma.

Jessie Kate died 19 December 2006, at the age of 96, and she is buried in the Lanham plots at Martha, OK next to Wortha.

Jessie Kate’s obituary read:

Jessie Kate Lanham, age 96 of Altus, Oklahoma, passed away Tuesday, December 19, 2006, at Plantation Village Nursing Center in Altus. She was born July 12, 1910 in Pella Texas to Jasper Newt Shipman and Callie Roxanne (Laney) Shipman. On August 17, 1927, in Martha, Oklahoma, Kate and Wortha L. Lanham were united in marriage at the Martha United Methodist Church in Martha, Oklahoma. He preceded her in death January 22, 1996. They lived in the Martha community until 1978 when they moved to Altus. Kate worked as a sales clerk at the S&H Green Stamp Store in Altus for twenty-two years. She retired in July 1975. She was a longtime member of the U.M.W. and the Martha Homemakers. Kate was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Altus.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, three brothers, and three sisters. Funeral services for Jessie Kate Lanham are scheduled for 2:00pm Thursday, December 21, 2006 at Lowell-Tims Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. David Player officiating.
